Whipped Body Butter Recipe

Ingredients:

Makes 2 - 8oz jars or about 2 cups of body butter depending on the fluffiness you achieve

  • 100 grams shea butter (nourishing and deeply moisturizing)

  • 70 grams apricot oil or almond oil (lightweight, non-greasy, and packed with vitamins)

  • 3 grams or 60 drops lavender essential oil (calming, skin-soothing)*

*Note: Lavender is gentle and widely loved, but you can swap it for another skin-safe essential oil if preferred. Learn more about essential oil safety here.

Tools:
  • Double boiler (or a heat-safe bowl over a pot of water)

  • Hand mixer or stand mixer

  • Glass jar or tin for storage

  • Digital scale (more accurate)*

    • *I like waterproof ones that can weight small amounts as low as 0.01 grams for essentials oils, but can also accommodate at least This one as an affordable option and this one is better quality

Step-by-Step Instructions:
  • Melt the Shea Butter

    • Use a double boiler to melt the shea butter on low heat*. Once fully melted, let it simmer for 15 minutes. *to make a double boiler, boil an inch of water in a pot and put a heat-safe bowl on top, turn on low to simmer and the steam will gently melt your butter

  • Mix in the Apricot/Almond Oil

    • Remove from heat and stir in the carrier oil

  • Chill Until Semi-Solid

    • Place the mixture in the freezer until it’s semi-solid but not rock-hard.

  • Add in the Essential Oil

    • Put the drops of essential oil into the mixture

  • Whip to Perfection

    • Use an electric mixer to whip the mixture until it’s light and fluffy, like whipped cream.

    • If it doesn’t whip properly, pop it back in the freezer for 10–15 minutes and try again.

  • Store & Enjoy!

    • Transfer to a clean, airtight container. Your whipped body butter is ready to use!
